Angels Outreach programs began in 1993, ministering to the residents in the Housing Projects of Ida B. Wells and Madden Park. It is a ministry sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, providing service to Chicago's near southside communities of Hyde Park, Kenwood and Bronzeville. However, it does not exclude anyone in need.

The Outreach staff attempts to enrich the lives of the homeless, those recovering from substance abuse, and those returning to society from prison by helping them to retrieve some order into their lives with specific needs in the areas of shelter referrals, food, education, furniture, substance abuse counseling*, and general spiritual guidance.

When someone comes to us in need, we see how we can help. It could be helping to pay a bill, or a utility (small amount), school tuition, medical or dental costs, insurance, bus cards, State ID, birth certificate, hygiene products, and more. It just depends on the need and if we are able to help.

In addition to financial contributions, to help meet needs such as those listed in the prior paragraph, we need donations of quality clothing for our clothing racks, appropriate for job interviews and wearing on the job.

Angels Outreach is an agency of Access to Recovery, a substance abuse recovery program, which has space next to ours at St. James United Methodist Church.
